I loved reading all your enthusiastic comments on yesterday’s post about the memoir “Paris Letters.” So many of you mentioned you’d like to read the book, and so… your wish is my commnd!
As I was writing yesterday’s post, I decided to send the author Janice an email to see if she’d be interested in collaborating on a giveaway. I mentioned I like reviewing books on my blog and linked to this post, just so she could get a little taste of Making Room.
Less than 24 hours later, she emailed me back, and what a lovely email! It put such a smile on my face that I thought I’d share the whole thing with you. She’s a kindred spirit with many of us, I think:
Hello Becca,
First off, I read the link you sent and was so delighted that you had reviewed those books. “That part was true”… picked it up at the library because the cover looked so dreamy. Couldn’t get past the second chapter. Ugh. And I was wondering about “I’m having so much fun here without you” so thanks for clearing that up.
Third, you have a nice looking blog. Clean and pretty acre of cyberspace.
Janice
Isn’t she nice?! I just want to sit down in Paris and share a café crème with her. And did you see that she’s going to send one of you a book and one of her beautiful hand painted letters from Paris? Autographed and addressed to you? What a wonderful gift!

UPDATE: And the winner, according to Random.org, is #26, Suzanne K. The winner has been emailed. Thanks for all your entries, everyone, and for such a generous giveaway, Janice!
It sounds like an amazing book and it may be as close as I ever get to going to Paris!
I would love to read this book. I am heading to Paris next month and cannot wait to enjoy all the sights and food. I really enjoy Paris and love to read about other’s experiences in the city of love.
As usual, I enjoy your reviews. In fact about 100% of the time as soon as I read a review, I log into my public library account and put a hold on the book! Our local library has this book, but I’ll wait to see if I win it or not! I’d like to read it because I’m sure missing my travel days and wish we could have spent more than a couple days in Paris. Pinned this post also!
PS: I’ll get back to your email soon! And, the dresses — they are super simple. In fact, you might need to whip one up for your sweet little girl, too.
Ciao for now.
i love books about Paris. Your giveaway is so fun.
I want to read this book because it’s a combo of all good things — Paris, paintings, and stories!
I love discovering new books! How I would love to be reminded of walking along the Seine on a breezy, Autumn day with my husband’s hand in mine, my daughter wrapped in her sling, and my son jogging ahead of us. Such fond memories! And if I get a few frugal ideas in the process, so much the better!
Paris is one of my favorite places on earth. This would be a fun way to “revisit”. Reading books about Paris are just about as good as visiting. ;)
Reading about Paris always makes me homesick for France, though usually in a good, TCK sort of way. I would love to read Janice’s book! Plus I’m always looking for anecdotes for my students. :)
I visited Paris many years ago and loved it, I love reading…the book looks like an excellent way to combine those two interests!
Living her in Naples Italy….. I dream about going to PARIS~ Even tho, we are so close to Paris, we have NOT been. With three kids and lack of our finical situation, we are on a very limited budget. Reading this beautiful book, this would make me feel like I am in Paris. Thanks Becca!!!!!
What a fabulous give-away! I’m trying to make a long-awaited trip back to Paris/Lyon happen this spring (it would be my husband’s first time); reading this, I’m sure, will push me to make the dream a reality.
I would love to read this book because it sounds like something I could relate to; thinking about leaving my job, exploring, and looking for love. Plus I love anything having to do with Paris.
So fun! As someone who left a “normal” job for something different, I would love to read this! Your review of it already gave me so many great tips!
Living in Italy right now and traveling as much as time and $ allow I love reading others been there or there now to share, enjoy, laugh and cry… Thanks
This book sounds amazing! I would love to see the info she has on the practical side of making your dreams come true. Thank you for this giveaway!
I just finished reading this book and LOVED it so much. I read portions out loud to my husband and we daydreamed about a move to Paris.

I have loved Paris since studying French in Junior High! I would love to read the book to find out more about her adventures! Your blog is great – very inspiring! Merci!
She is so kind! Though you have summarized them so well, I’d love to read more about her tips for saving money. It would be so fun as well to read about the process.
I would absolutely adore this book! My husband and I went to Paris in early 2012 and it was one of our favorite trips to date. And I love all the tips on how to save money (and live a more minimalistic life)!
I follow you on IG, my name is @mvd83
And I am going to subscribe to your blog right now!
I would love to read this book because PARIS!! and it sounds like she has some great tips for simplifying your life. We could all use a little of that… and find a way to save up for an amazing vacation!
I would love to win this book – it’s beautiful, it’s about Paris and about how to really chase your dreams instead of just, well, dreaming about them! I am currently finishing a work contract far from my family and friends, this book would be perfect to take me away from here a few hours at a time!
What a generous giveaway! I’m always looking for a good book to read!
I would love to read this book! I am all about finding ways to save a bit while working towards a goal and I love Paris. We went with my older daughter when she was a baby and she she has been telling us lately she wants to go again now that she is a big girl. Ha! How I wish we could. Maybe that should be our money saving goal?

What a nice lady! Her life sounds like a dream, but I’m sure she must have challenges like the rest of us. :) I haven’t read her book, though. Just started The Secret Keeper yesterday on the way back from PR.
Thanks for the great review and recommendation! I’m looking forward to learning more about living frugally through reading Paris Letters. I’m already subscribed to your mailing list and follow you on Instagram. :) Going to share this giveaway on Facebook now!

It’s so cool that you got such a nice response from her. Glad to see she has good taste in cyberspace! You deserve her compliments!
When I read your post I immediately added the book to my GoodReads “want to read” list. :) I’d adore winning a copy!
Like many, I’m a sucker for anything Paris related, and I count a good glass of wine with a bit of Reblouchon in that category, too. Not to mention all the fab skincare, pastries, Bonne Maman jam. I could go on and on… I’d love to win this book, we live in London and never seem to have the time to hop on the train and actually wander about the streets. This book sounds so lovely!
I’d love to read this book due to my developing Francophilia. :) I’m already a email subscriber.
I would love to read this because I LOVE books about Paris, but a good, clean, well written book about it seems so hard to find. I would love to experience the magic of Paris through Janice’s eyes!
I also subscribed & followed you on IG :)
I’ve always loved Paris, even though I haven’t been there yet. :p
(Already subscribed to your emailing list and following you on Instagram!)
I loved reading about the book in your previous post. I was / am inspired by the dedication and discipline it took to save up the $ for the trip. Once I ready this post with the author’s lovely response to you I had to jump over and check out her Etsy shop. Oh my her watercolors are absolutely gorgeous. I’m sure I would enjoy her book as well. Thanks so much for sharing.

This sounds like an incredible story about taking control of one’s future. What an inspiration.
Just found your blog. This book sounds great! I’d like to save $100 a day. A lot of the things on her list I already do, so I don’t know if I’d get similar results. It certainly helps reduces clutter in your house.
I’d like to read her whole story. People simplifying is on my mind.
I’d love to read this book! It sounds fun and inspiring. It sounds like a great escape for those of us who can’t really travel right. Ow for whatever reason.

I would love to read this book because 1)I love to read; it’s my way to relax. and 2)It’s the only way I’ll ever get to travel the world – in my imagination, living vicariously through others. :)
The book sounds wonderful! Paris was the first trip I took with my husband (then boyfriend) and the reason we subsequently sent our daughter to French immersion school. I dream of someday living in Paris, with my paintbrushes and camera. The book sounds like a great escape into my dream world!
This was the BEST BOOK!!!! If I win, I’m giving it to my daughter but I’m keeping the letter
I love your letters and beautiful drawings…would LOVE to read your book and get lost in Paris!
What a fun giveaway! Love France!
I too lived in Italy…for 2 years. I was up north in Porcia. Loved it & want to go back one day. I also did not get to go to Paris while there…so close, yet so far away. One day I will go…it is my dream. I would love to read this book. Paris is beautiful. I’ll keep dreaming of Paris till I get there. Ciao!
Thanks for the chance to win a book that sounds like a mini vacation!
I would love to win! Thanks!
I would love to have this book! I actually read it through the library, but after I was done, I knew it was a book I wanted to own. Such a beautiful story, with beautiful art!
Hi, I’d like to read your book as I gave your “letters” and your book to my daughter in law as a birthday gift…I think it is something I would enjoy also!
You have totally sold me on this book! It sounds like just the kind of thing I love to read.
(Also, I’m an email subscriber of your blog!)
I gave this book to a friend and would love a copy for myself and the letter would go perfect with my photos of Paris on my wall. Thanks
The book sounds charming. I would love to read it.
I’m on your mailing list.
I first saw Janice’s Letters from Paris featured in an article on Etsy.
Reading the article about someone that still thinks that being so un-secretly romantic about their love of Paris inspired me. Janice is passionate about sharing it with the world. And she does this with her bygone age method of putting her pen to paper artistically. I love that she has taken all of her intimate handwritten letters and collated them into a book full of page after page of beautiful stories about the city of love.
I am dying to give it to my husband for a late Valentine’s gift, so we can read it together. We are still dreaming of going together to Paris and this book would be such a great start to getting there.
Becca, I have followed you on Instegram, Pinterest, pinned this on Pinterest, subscribed to your newsletter, shared this post on my Facebook wall and commented here as requested.
Hope to hear back from you :)
Thanks,
Sarah
What a fun and special giveaway! I’d be tickled to win. :)
I got to visit Paris for the first time in November; I was a little trepidatious that I would be disappointed, since one hears so much of its magic. The city did not disappoint! Would love to read more tales of its charm.
P.S. I already follow you on Instagram and am subscribed to your email updates. :)
