Personalize Your Own Handmade Doll & Book GIVEAWAY with BB&J!

abby11 w princess closeup b barnyard closeup w someday closeup This giveaway has been in the works for a long time, and I am so so excited for this day! One of my dearest friends in Sicily, Anna Harris, has been hard at work launching her own handmade business.

A year and a half ago, Anna and I shared a space at a craft fair, which I blogged about here. This was the first time I’d seen Anna’s dolls, and they were selling like hotcakes! Since then she has further developed her vision and work, and now she sells handmade dolls that are inspired by classic children’s books.

I love love love Anna’s philosophy: “Books and dolls come together here to create play, inspire imagination, and make memories. bb&j dolls are for those who seek a slow-paced play and imagination-based lifestyle in the midst of this fast-paced technological world. When our lives can be excessively stimulated, bb&j toys bring you “back to basics.”

meandolivia w blue secret closeup w maple closeup Anna’s shop opens on Sunday, May 3! All her beautiful dolls are handmade by Anna in her home in Sicily, Italy. Bonus: U.S. shipping rates will apply to all orders!

Today Anna and I are giving away one customized doll of your choice and a children’s book to go with it!

Which doll and book combination would you choose for a little person you know? becca-garber-bbj-giveaway-doll-book.jpg bmagnificentcloseup w places closeup You have SIX different ways to enter which gives you six chances to win!

Giveaway ends next Friday, May 8, at midnight. May the odds be ever in your favor. :)

Hard to decide with such great book choices but I’m leaning toward Anne of Green Gables… Or maybe Madeleine. :-p

What a creative enterprise. The idea of actually having the doll who is the character in the book sounds magical for a child.

  5. Amanda May 1, 2015 at 7:52 am #

Also I’ll have to come back later and post a photo of a doll I made Loretta- very similar style! Took me a ridiculous amount of time to make though… I am sloooow at sewing.

  6. Jenna May 1, 2015 at 9:51 am #

These are so lovely! A Little Princess will always have a special place in my heart, I would definitely choose that doll! (also, I’m following both of you on instagram and liked bb&j on facebook!)

  7. Shelby May 1, 2015 at 10:23 am #

What a sweet idea! I would probably get the Maple book and doll, partly because the doll reminds me of my child, and because I’ve never heard of the book.

I follow you (Becca) on instagram, am on the BB&J mailing list, and BB&J on instagram.

    Great giveaway! I’m excited :)

    • Anna May 3, 2015 at 12:04 pm #

Thanks Shelby! Maple is a great little book about parents who plant a tree on the day their daughter was born and how she grows and loves her little tree. Then one day there is a Willow tree planted next to hers and she is going to be a big sister!

  8. Amanda May 1, 2015 at 10:24 am #

Oh, I love The Secret Garden, and so does my girl! I’d match the doll to her features, too.

  9. LJ May 1, 2015 at 11:14 am #

I’m not sure which book I would chose. Maybe Madeline? I haven’t read all of these, but I’m sure my little girl would love one.
I am on your mailing list:)

  10. Erin Kowald May 1, 2015 at 12:57 pm #

Great giveaway, ladies! Very generous. I would choose the blonde Olivia doll/book combo from the ones above. Or, if it was any book, I would choose Madeline. I’ve liked FB and Instagram and now I’m crossing my fingers.

  11. Karen May 1, 2015 at 1:04 pm #

This is such a clever idea! I think I like the Anne of Green Gables idea. Such a favorite book from my childhood that I can’t wait to share with my daughters.

I follow you both on instagram and am signed up for your mailing list.

These are lovely—simple and sweet like the old-fashioned rag dolls I might imagine from the Little House books. I especially love the Little Princess and Secret Garden dolls, mostly because I love the fabrics used in their clothes—but my little girl would probably love that O The Places You’ll Go doll since that’s currently her favorite book! :) I liked BB&J on Facebook and signed up to be on their mailing list—and I am on your mailing list, too! Thanks for the chance to win!

  13. Andrea Jacobs May 1, 2015 at 1:25 pm #

From the pictures above, I’d choose ‘A Little Princess.’ If I had to choose one I don’t see above, maybe Anne of Green Gables or Charlotte’s Web? I have a three year old little girl who has just started showing some interest in read aloud/chapter books and Charlotte’s Web is what we’ve been reading together. This is such a great idea! She loves to pull from her favorite books for her pretend play. I know she would be so delighted to have a doll to match one of her favorite books!

  23. Johanna May 1, 2015 at 3:56 pm #

I love the Madeline doll (although it is a really had choice!!)

I follow you and bb&j on Instagram. I’m on both your mailing lists and I liked bb&j on Facebook. Can you tell I want this one? :)

  24. Kayla May 1, 2015 at 7:37 pm #

    These are brilliant!

My daughters love Barnyard Dance – they dance along to the words and laugh and giggles
Especially when their dad dances along with them. I’m sure any of the dolls would ve welcome partners to join them … bow to the horse, bow to the cow :)

    • Anna May 3, 2015 at 12:11 pm #

Kayla, my daughter LOVES for me to sing the book and she dances around like a chicken! It’s so fun to hear another family does that as well!

  25. Courtney Lynn Harris May 2, 2015 at 5:29 am #

These are just so sweet, Becca and *exactly* the type of doll I was hunting for to give my three year old last Christmas!

We already love the sweet “Maple” book, and the matching doll is just precious!

  26. Becca Arthur May 2, 2015 at 7:39 pm #

You ladies are just so talented and creative and so dear to me! I signed up to like bb&j on FB. :) Rereading Anne of Green Gables is next on my list, so I can preview it as a read aloud for Elise and I. It would be fun to have a lovely Anne-inspired doll beside us when we read it! We’re big Madeline fans, too…so that’s a close second! :)

    • Anna May 3, 2015 at 12:21 pm #

Hi Becca! Sicily isn’t the same without you!

  27. Anna Hegdahl May 2, 2015 at 8:40 pm #

I just subscribed to the Making Room email list and like bb&j on Facebook :)

I don’t have children yet, but I’ve been thinking recently about how I would like them someday to have simple, well-made toys that stimulate their imaginations, rather than a clutter of cheap, factory-made, noise-making toys that only interest them for brief periods of time. My favorite story as a child was Cinderella (my grandma had the version illustrated by Ruth Ives), but I also loved (and still love) Laura Ingalls Wilder’s Little House books. A Laura doll would probably be my first choice. :)

I would likely choose Anne lf Green Gables

  30. Nicole May 3, 2015 at 4:37 am #

These dolls are so precious. I’m very excited to be an aunt (for the first time!) this summer to a little girl named Olivia Rose. I’ve been looking all over for a unique gift I can give that she can treasure throughout her childhood (and likely into her adulthood). I’d love to get her an Olivia doll (and of course start her Olivia library) to spark her love for reading one day!

  31. lizzie May 3, 2015 at 12:44 pm #

Wow, what a wonderful idea and what gorgeous work!
I love the book choices. We do own most of those books already, but I think my favourite combo is a Little Princess (which somehow we do not own) and Anne of Green Gables (which we would be perfectly happy to own three copies of, lol).
I have three little girls, and they love their dollies and reading.

  32. Callie May 3, 2015 at 10:37 pm #

I absolutely adore Anne of Green Gables and think my 8 year old daughter would love a copy of her home and these lovely dolls are fabulous. Thanks for the chance to win!

I really like the Secret Garden doll and the Magnificent Thing doll, but of course would want the to look like my little girl. For book choice we love Madeline, I love how it has the same lines in each book…the littlest one was Madeline. There’s even a Madeline book when she visits the White House. :)

I liked BB&J’s FB page and I follow BeccaGarber and BBANDJ Handmade on Instagram.

I love the doll with the Secret Garden…soooo cute!

  39. daria May 5, 2015 at 12:48 am #

I meant Anna’s in my last blog comment. This time I did the other one too

  40. Nicole May 6, 2015 at 10:21 am #

I would choose the Olivia doll! I watch my dear friend’s daughter, Olive, once a week and her mama just loves pigs and therefore Olivia would be a perfect match! I also subscribe to your emails! Hope all is well in Sunny CA!

  45. Abi May 7, 2015 at 11:26 am #

I’d go for the Most Magnificent Thing because I’ve never read that book :) Plus I love the red polka-dotted dress :)
I don’t have Instagram (trying to keep my social media life simple)…
I am on Becca’s mailing list and just joined Anna’s, plus liked her Facebook page! That’s 4 entries for me, please :)

  46. Vicky May 7, 2015 at 12:25 pm #

This is literally a dream come true. All of these books were so amazing to me when I was little! It’s such a toss up between A Little Princess and The Secret Garden. Reading A Little Princess with my mom (and watching the movie) was the time I first learned to whistle. Every book seems to hold such great memories. I think my favorite doll has to be the Someday doll because I’m such a stripes fan and that dress is too cute.

I really wish something like this would’ve been available when I was little. Maybe the closest it gets is The Big Comfy Couch Molly Doll. Ha! Makes me think of all the fun nights my momma would read with us.

    Thank y’all! ;)

Love this! Even if I don’t win I think this will be great for Aly at Christmas! I love the Secret Garden or Oh the Places You Will Go! Though if there was an Anne of Green Gables that would be a choice too! I would choose the muslim natural, blue for eyes, and blonde since it most represents Aly. I love the pink rose dress I saw on the website, https://www.etsy.com/listing/232092098/cute-secret-garden-personalized-dolls?utm_source=myshoplistings&utm_medium=api&utm_campaign=api! I did all the entries! Good luck everyone!

  50. Hannah G. May 8, 2015 at 1:35 pm #

Oh, I think I’d have to get the Secret Garden doll and book. They’re all so cute, though!
Also, I get Making Room’s email updates.
    I wonder who will win… : )
