a visit to Marmee’s library

Hello again!  We’ve been deeply enjoying our time here in Virginia, soaking up every moment with family and with each other.  Unfortunately Elliott returned to work in Sicily yesterday and I’m feeling a little lost without him.  Sigh.

I have another month here in the States, so if you’re in the neighborhood… email me so we can hang out!

On Elliott’s last day here we decided to visit his mom at work.  She’s an elementary school librarian, so she’s an easy grandmother to go visit!  We loved the books, the bean bags, the stuffed animals, and the colorful, cozy environment of her beautiful library.

Lena also enjoyed visiting a classroom of 5th Graders that participated in a book club this past year with Marmee (as Lena calls her grandmother).  She gave them all hugs and high fives before they were dismissed.  Our little ham!

I love Elliott’s beard and longer hair in these photos.  At work he has to be clean-shaven with a short haircut, so every time we’re on vacation he grows his beard for me!

I had to include the last photo that my father-in-law took of Lena.  She bombed it by sticking her finger in her nose right in front of her smile!  Good thing she’s cute.

So, I love that you included the finger-picking-bomb photo. Seriously, where do they learn the nose picking? I brought Samuel back to bed today (which is rare) and as we’re laying there quietly, he whispers, “What’s that mamma?” I open my eyes to a jewel pulled from his nose, mere inches from my eyeball. Gross! Miss you two. Wish you were on the W. Coast so we could hang out! Take care Becca.

Nicole, the constant refrain in my life right now is, “What’s that, Mama?” I hear it when she sees something she doesn’t recognize, when she hears something she hasn’t heard before (and then I have to guess what she heard), and when she seems someone interesting (and starts pointing at them, even though she’s just a couple feet away). Ahhh… life with our two-year-olds!

Wish I was on the West Coast for a bit too. Miss you!

Ha ha! That is so funny. When I ask Samuel what he’s referring to, he is now able to answer, “Right there.” Which actually sounds like, “Wight there.” So cute! Although at times the “What’s that, Mama?” can get redundant. I suppose the next line will be, “Why?” Such a blessed life though.

What a fun place to visit – I am sure Marmee was so happy to have you all there that day!

We prolonged the visit by a) getting trapped in by the school buses and unable to leave until they were all gone, full of kids and b) going out to lunch with Marmee afterwards! It was such a fun day, especially as it happened to be her last day of school.

Love her library! And my mom was Marmee as well. Nice choice. :)

Really, Tiffany? I feel like “Marmee”s are few and far between! The Garber kids have talked about calling her that forever, though, when the grandbabies came. Now they’re here and she asked for that to be her grandmother name. I love it too!
